PLANS have been ‘unanimously’ approved for a former Droitwich pub to be bulldozed to make way for a new care home, creating up to 70 new jobs in the process.
Frontier Estates Ltd submitted the proposals, which will see the Spring Meadow pub on Mulberry Tree Hill demolished and a 70-bed care home and car park built in its place.
During a meeting last week, Wychavon District Council planning committee approved the plans and commended the developers on their engagement with the community.
The current part single, part two-storey structure, which was built in the 1980s, has been vacant since 2014 and the proposed care home will be spread across three floors featuring a cafe, hair salon, cinema, activity space and gym.
The developers claim the build will bring an estimated 70 full-time and part-time jobs in a range of positions from administration, management, care and maintenance.
Coun Bradley Thomas, Planning, Infrastructure and Flooding for Wychavon, said: “We can confirm that the plans for a 70 bed care home on Mulberry Tree Hill in Droitwich were approved at the last planning committee meeting.
“Additional care facilities for our growing elderly population are really important to meet demand.
“The committee welcomed the extra efforts the developer took to engage with communities and their well thought out design.
“This decision was approved unanimously with members speaking strongly in favour, no-one attended the committee to speak against.”
