A real chance to get buzzy around the hives

RESIDENTS wanting to have a go at bee-keeping can sign up to taster courses being held at Webbs in Wychbold.

The garden centre will be a hive of activity when the sessions take place on Sunday (April 19), May 17, June 14, July 12, August 9 and September 20.

The three-hour courses are run by professional beekeeper Chris Broad who runs Saltway Honey and established eight hives in the Riverside Gardens two years ago.

They have provided hundreds of jars of honey which are exclusive to Webbs and sold in the food hall.

The course, which are £25 each, include two hours with the Webbs bee hives with protective bee suits provided. The third hour will be an indoor session outlining the next steps including equipment, local training courses, recommended reading and answering questions.

Chris will answer all the questions a prospective bee-keeper might have from costs, time commitments and suitable hive locations to potential problems.

The taster sessions proved very popular when they were run at Webbs last year and spaces sold out very quickly.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.webbs.co.uk or from the reception at Webbs, Wychbold. Booking is essential.
