Droitwich Editorial 8th Sep, 2023 Updated: 8th Sep, 2023   0

PEOPLE can learn about the intriguing history of a multitude of places across Droitwich during this year’s free Heritage Open Days from September 9 to September 17.

The events are part of the UK’s largest history and culture festival, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Adults can experience a 40 minute behind the scene’s tour of the Droitwich Spa Heritage and Information Centre, St Richards House, Victoria Square on September 16 from 10am to 11.45am.

The tour will explore the remnants of the building’s past and its links to the Brine Baths.

Visitors will then be taken up into the archive where they can see parts of the museum’s collection, not normally on display to the public.

Booking is required and access is via two flights of stairs.

  • St. Andrews Church, Ombersley will be open on September 9 and September 10 from 10am for Creativity Unwrapped.

Visitors can get up close to the stained glass windows, get crafty, see the Sandys’ Mausoleum, learn about glass and be refreshed.

  • St Mary and All Saints Church, Hampton Lovett is open on September 9 from 10am to 4pm.

Through exhibits, displays, and activities, visitors will be able to see and celebrate past and current examples of creativity and heritage from within the church and local community.

Visitors can also learn about Hampton Lovett’s wider heritage and the historic figures in our local community and see the work currently underway to repair and conserve the 14th century church tower.

Tea, coffee and cakes available.
