AROUND 1,000 runners will be lining up for the Worcester full and half marathon which takes place tomorrow (Sunday).

And the races, which have been organised by Tempo Events and both start at 9.30am, will benefit St Richard’s Hospice as £2 from each entry fee will go towards helping the charity fund the free care it offers.

In addition to that, 50 runners will be taking part to boost the hospice’s coffers further.

Sarah Bland, Race Director at Tempo Events said she was excited the organisation was hosting the events.

“In the run up, we have been busy getting everything into place which includes recruiting 60 volunteers, ordering 5,000 bottles of water, 1,000 bananas as well as signs, t-shirts, medals and toilets. It’s a busy time!”

Louise Hewett, Managing Director at Hewett Recruitment said : “Hewett Recruitment is delighted to be the main sponsor again this year for this incredible event in Worcester.

“We have been supporters of St Richard’s Hospice for many years and encourage local people to take part and enjoy this event which provides much needed funds for a most worthy cause.

“We all know someone in our lives who has or may need the wonderful support that St Richard’s gives to our local community. I’m hoping for a record year of fundraising and numbers taking part.”

Jodi Brandwood, Fund-raiser at St Richard’s Hospice said : “We are thrilled that so many runners at this year’s event have chosen to raise funds for hospice care. Last year, hospice supporters taking part in the event raised a staggering £12,074.10.

“It’s a fabulous day and is successful in large part thanks to the tireless enthusiasm of the many volunteers who help out. Without them it simply wouldn’t happen, so if you would like to get involved, please contact us. We would love to have you on board!”

Both the full and half marathon races will start and finish at Sixways Rugby Stadium, the home of the Worcester Warriors. Runners will take a scenic, rural route that heads out east from the city; the half marathon runners complete one loop and full marathon runners take on a second loop before the last downhill mile to the finish line.

All runners will receive an event t-shirt and a medal for taking part. There are dedicated prizes for the first, second and third male and female finishers, plus a team prize and corporate team prize. The race is suitable for all standards of runner and will be professionally chip timed.

Entries are open and registration is available online at www.tempoevents.co.uk or www.runnersworld.co.uk.

The organisers are also calling for volunteer help to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The event is sponsored by Hewett Recruitment which has supported the event since it began in 2011.
