A NEW six-week tennis course is being served up on the courts at Droitwich’s Lido Park, starting from 10am tomorrow (Saturday).

The sessions, which provide a real beginners’ introduction to the sport for all ages, are being delivered by Droitwich Tennis Club and are being supported by Wychavon District Council, as part of its ‘Get Wychavon Active’ scheme.

All of the equipment needed will be provided and those wanting to take part can either pre-register at www.droitwichtennis.co.uk or just need turn up and join in.

There will be a small cost of £1 per person per week for the classes which are run by qualified coaches the tennis club.

It comes as the campaign to get the tennis courts in Droitwich’s Lido Park resurfaced continues.

That drive received a welcome boost from Morrisons which donated £100 to the cause.

There will also be a bag pack at the supermarket on December 22.

Droitwich mum Elaine Newman launched the campaign after being concerned about the courts falling into a state of repair over the years and them being laden with potholes.

The cost of repair will be £40,000 and Wychavon District Council has said if £20,000 is raised, it would match-fund it to reach the total.

Elaine told The Standard: “I’m so pleased the community is finally pulling together – I’m really grateful to Sandra and the team at Morrisons – thank you so much.”
