Appeal for volunteers to help with Droitwich Spa's big Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations

Droitwich Editorial 16th May, 2022   0

AN APPEAL has been launched to find volunteers to help with Droitwich Spa’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Celebration.

The fun-packed event itself will take place on Saturday, June 4, with free entertainment for all ages.

Mark Keld, Droitwich Town Council Clerk, said: “The platinum jubilee presents a fantastic opportunity for a community celebration in Droitwich Spa which the town council hopes everyone will enjoy.”

Curiosity Productions are on the lookout for volunteers to help make the jubilee event a success and those who come forward will have the chance to learn new skills, meet new people and make something great happen for the town.

The event team need people to:

• Distribute flyers and posters around the town and in neighbouring areas ahead of the event.

• Help to set up the site on Friday, June 3, and early morning (6am to 10am) on Saturday, June 4.

• Steward the event on Saturday, June 4, from 10am to 7.30pm.

Anyone interested in volunteering should email [email protected] or go to: Volunteer Sign-Up – Curiosity Productions

Decorate Droitwich Spa

Members of the public can get involved and help to decorate the town by making paper flowers that will go into shop windows.

There are flower making instruction videos online by artist Georgie Elsom, who will be working with volunteers to create garlands and archways to go into shop windows and decorate the library.

There is a flower collection point at the Droitwich Spa Heritage and Information Centre.

Materials can be provided if a group is interested in getting involved – those interested are advised to contact [email protected].

The production team was inspired by the Queen’s Green Canopy scheme to build a nature theme into the celebrations, which the flower making is part of.

There will also be a Platinum Jubilee Wishing Tree at the event on June 4, created by artist Sophie Handy, where visitors are invited to create their own pledge leaf, and think about what difference they can make this year as a personal green pledge.

This is a Droitwich Town Council Event, produced by Curiosity Productions, funded by Arts Council England and Wychavon District Council.
