Appeal launched for unwanted paint so Droitwich Spa High School students can complete the town's mural

AN APPEAL has been made for residents to donate any part-used and un-needed tins of paint so students from Droitwich Spa High School can complete a mural for the town festivals this year.

The theme for 2017 is based on 200 years of Salt King John Corbett and his Chateau Impney home and, when completed, the 12-panel mural will be displayed in Droitwich Library.

Head of creative arts Nick Wardle, who is leading the project, said he was delighted when Peter Hawkins from the Droitwich Arts Network approached him with the proposal to create the mural.

“The enthusiasm generated about the project has been fantastic and our students are now all eager to make a start.

“For such a large scale project we need quite a substantial amount of paint.

“The team of students involved are very mindful of the environment and are always looking for opportunities to recycle and go about their work in as environmentally friendly way as possible.

“Rather than buy new tins for the task the students thought it might be an opportunity to utilise any spare paint that members of the community may have cluttering up their sheds and garages.”

And, as Spa residents set about their DIY tasks over the bank holiday weekend they are being urged to keep an eye out for any unwanted tins of paint and to donate them to the project.

Mr Wardle added: “It would be a much greener way of approaching the project and for this reason I would like to appeal for help from members of our community to donate their unwanted tins of paint.

“The tins can be taken to the Canal Side Studios, The Meetbox, Droitwich town shopping centre.

“As soon as we have enough, we can get started. Your help in assisting us to be as environmentally friendly as possible would be greatly appreciated.”

DAN Chairman Peter Hawkins said: “The students need bright and bold colours to complete the mural.

“DAN is excited to see the final result and it would be great for the town to know that they have supported and encouraged these creative young adults.”

The Canal Side Studios/ The Meetbox is open from 10am to 4.30pm Tuesday to Saturday where tins of emulsion can be dropped off.
