APPEAL - Spate of burglaries targeting Droitwich businesses and community organisations

Droitwich Editorial 17th Jan, 2024   0

A SPATE of burglaries to Droitwich businesses has become a cause for concern, prompting a police appeal for information.

All of the recent incidents have happened since the new year, with the first burglaries at Droitwich Spa Cricket Club and a Canal & River Trust premises on Monday, January 8.

Later that week, one man was arrested on Wednesday, January 10 in connection with a burglary at a barber shop in Droitwich on the same day. Enquiries are ongoing for this arrest.

And The Droitwich Spa Tennis Club and Little Al’s cafe in the Lido were burgled on Friday, January 12.

West Mercia Police have also received reports of criminal damage at The Chateau Impney Estate on Sunday, January 14 after the disused Regency Centre was targeted twice.

Five arrests have been made in connection to one of the incidents.

The Safer Neighbourhood Team, along with officers from the Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team and Burglary Investigation Team, will be conducting additional patrols to deter further offences.

Safer neighbourhood inspector for Wychavon and Malvern, Dave Wise, said: “We understand the concern these incidents bring to a community like Droitwich, and I ask that the public report anything they deem to be suspicious, however small that may be.

“Working together puts us in a much stronger position to stamp out these kinds of offences.

“We now have officers carrying out additional patrols to deter further offences, investigate the burglaries and to catch and convict those responsible.

“We are here to support the local community including business owners in Droitwich, and should you want crime prevention advice I ask you to contact your Safer Neighbourhood Team who can work alongside our Business Crime Officers to provide expert advice.”
