AN EXHIBITION showcasing the artistic wonders of Droitwich students is on display for the public this month.
Pupils at Westacre Middle School will have their most recent art project on display at the Droitwich Arts Network Hub until Friday, May 10.
For the project, an array of colourful and dynamic artworks have been created by pupils at Westacre from Year 5 to 7, depicting vegetables, portraits and eyes.
The captivating exhibition from the pupils looks at line, composition, colour, with a strong emphasis on polka dots to complete the artistic studies.
The display came about when committee member John Evans reached out to Westacre Middle School to initiate the idea and development of schools’ artwork being appreciated by all those visiting The Hub.
Inspiration for the Westacre Middle School art exhibition has been provided by the world renowned artist, Yayoi Kusama.
Yayoi’s unique artwork features dotted compositions within a range of medias, giving her the title of ‘Princess of Polka Dot’.
During their studies of worldwide artists, the pupils have taken aspects of Yayoi Kusama’s work to produce 3D sculptures, paintings and drawings.
Westacre teacher, Mrs Bird, said: “At Westacre Middle School, our more able artists have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the exhibition process.
“It has been fantastic seeing the children work so hard. It has been an exciting opportunity for the children to showcase their work in the local area.”
The Hub on St Andrews Square is open Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays from 10 am to 4 pm for those interested in seeing the Westacre exhibition.
