Austin Sevens among the highlights when the Chateau Impney Hill Climb returns

Droitwich Editorial 4th Jul, 2018   0

THE ANNUAL Chateau Impney Hill Climb returns to Droitwich this weekend and for the first time, the British Motor Museum will be racing two of its unique Austin Sevens at the event.

The 1935 Austin Seven side-valve and 1936 Austin Seven twin-cam single-seat cars will take to the track.

More than 200 competitors will be putting their pedals to the metal on the challenging course on Saturday and Sunday, July 8 and 9.

The Chateau’s own 1936 Austin Seven will also be featured to give racing fanatics the chance to see the surviving models run together in the competition.

Stephen Laing, the British Motor Museum’s curator, said: “These little Sevens are some of the most exciting pre-war racing cars and were big hitters in the racing scene in the 1930s.

“They are among the last single seater racers ever to be built by a major British manufacturer and we are really looking forward to reuniting them on track after so many years.”

The Hill Climb was relaunched in 2015 after a 48-year break and has gone from strength-to-strength.

More than 16,000 visitors head to the Hill Climb each year for a taste of motoring history,

This year’s event will feature a Concours d’Elegance showcasing a range of stunning and priceless cars, luxury trade stands, a vintage funfair and a Supercar Expo of 100 cars.

Tickets are available from £20 at chateauimpneyhillclimb.com or by calling 0845 017 0637.

They are also available for £25 on the gate.
