RESIDENTS are calling for more bins to be installed in Droitwich after concerns were raised about the amount of rubbish and dog mess strewn across the Spa’s streets.
The issue was raised at the town’s annual meeting last week when one home owner, Mr Sidaway, of Meadow Road, highlighted the problem in the Westlands to Droitwich Town Council.
He said: “The streets there are littered with rubbish next to the playing fields by Park Way.
“It is just full of rubbish and bags of dog mess because the people have no where to put them.”
Pam Craney, from Droitwich Town Council, said the problem would not be providing the bins but the cost of paying Wychavon District Council to empty them which they said they would be happy to do.
These funds would have to come out of the town council’s limited budget.
Sharon Casswell, client services manager for Wychavon District Council, said: “We haven’t received any complaints about dog fouling in the Westlands area and our own inspections have not identified a problem.
“Dog fouling not only creates an unclean and unhealthy environment but is also illegal and can result in a fine of £75. We’d urge all dog owners to be responsible and scoop up after their dog.
You don’t need a designated dog bin to dispose of dog mess, any litter bin will do.”
The council has urged residents to report anyone seen dog fouling to them at www.wychavon.gov.uk/dog-fouling-removal.
