Bromsgrove and Droitwich photographers announced winners of wildlife competition

Droitwich Editorial 26th Aug, 2019   0

FOUR local wildlife photographers from the Bromsgrove and Droitwich area were announced as winners of the annual photography competition for the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust fundraising calendar.

The aim of the competition and calendar is to ‘highlight the wonder of the county’s wildlife and wild places’.

Roy Porter, Carl Graef and Elaine Robinson from Bromsgrove and Robin Couchman from Droitwich all snapped stunning shots of local wildlife which really exemplified the beauty of our county.

For the competition, photographers were encouraged to enter any wildlife images that they’ve taken around the county from nature reserves or neighbourhood parks to their own back garden.

The amount of photographs taken in entrants’ gardens this year was vast and was described as ‘demonstrating just how important our own spaces are for wildlife’.

The organiser of the competition, Wendy Carter said: “We’re really lucky to be living in a fantastic county with some fabulous species of wildlife and some very talented photographers.”

Just under 200 images were entered by over 40 photographers and judging was difficult.

Elaine Robinson from Bromsgrove captured a Reed Bunting perched among blossom in the Upton Warren Wetland Reserve and said her ‘patience was rewarded with this lovely composition’. Her print along with the other 11 victors’ will be printed in the Trust’s 2020 calendar alongside an added 24 runner’s-up images that will also be featured as smaller inserts.

The calendar is available to buy from worcswildlifetrust.co.uk and all revenue directly contributes to protect Worcestershire’s wildlife and wild places.

Wendy added: “We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who entered.”
