Brrrrave swimmers can now go for a cold water winter dip at Droitwich Lido

Droitwich Editorial 14th Oct, 2022   0

BRAVE swimmers can go for a nice refreshing dip in Droitwich Spa Lido which has relaunched its winter, cold water swimming season after last year’s successful inaugural programme.

Sessions, which are £8 each, run between 8am and 9am and from 9am to 10am and can be booked on the Rivers Fitness app or at Lido.

Research has proved cold water swimming to have plenty of benefits, including stress reduction, helping with mental health and boosting people’s natural immune system.

It is a great opportunity to meet new people with there now being many local outdoor wild swimming groups and GPs can even prescribe it.

The winter sessions were trialed last December and it proved so popular it was extended until April when the heating was turned back on.

Temperatures range from 3°C to 12°C in the pool.

As it is so cold, swimmers are advised to wear wetsuits and those suffering with medical conditions should get advice from their doctors, not ‘overdo it’ in the water, and not to warm up too quickly when they get out of water.

People can visit the Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido Facebook page or riversfitness.co.uk/droitwichlido for more information.

2023 Droitwich Spa Lido calendar now available

The Friends of Droitwich Spa Lido (FODSL) which raises funds for the outdoor pool and buys items, such as benches, hair dryers and flowers, has produced a 2023 calendar.

The calendar is now on sale at the Lido and the Lido cafe for £6.
