Call for action to be taken on Droitwich's 'dangerous' Westlands roundabout

A DROITWICH resident has hit out at the dangers of crossing a busy road by the Westlands roundabout.

The calls come after a report about pedestrian plight on the front page of last Friday’s Standard.

The resident who does not want to be named said: “I’ve lived here since 1971 and it’s been going on for years.

“We used to walk through the park to get to Droitwich but they’ve built shops now so it’s a nightmare.”

She added: “I’ve watched young mothers with small children trying to cross and it’s very risky.

“Motorists are still in motorway mode when they come off the M5 and get to the island.”

The resident said the busiest times when people took their lives in their own hands were between 8am and 9.30am and from 4.30pm to 6pm.

She said it was especially dangerous for people living in the Westlands estate.

“When I saw your report on the front page last week about the dangers of crossing Worcester Road, I simply had to get in touch.

“I know that road well and I know it’s dangerous – but it’s nowhere near as dangerous as it is here by the Westlands.”

A spokesperson said: “The county council does not have any current plans to make any changes at Westlands roundabout.

“However, we will continue to monitor it and liaise with the local councillor.”
