Campaign for life-saving treatment for Bromsgrove's Sarah hits the £15k mark

Droitwich Editorial 3rd Dec, 2021   0

THE CAMPAIGN to raise £40,000 for potentially life-saving treatment for a Bromsgrove woman diagnosed with an aggressive grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour is now up to more than £15,600.

Sarah Witcomb, who is 50 and received the devastating diagnosis seven weeks ago, needs immunotherapy to have the best chance of survival but the treatment is not available on the NHS.

She has already undergone brutal and ravaging rounds of chemotherapy and radiotherapy but it is the immunotherapy which could slow the tumour’s growth.

Sarah’s daughter Isobella said: “It has been unbelievable – we never thought the campaign would take off and get the response it has.”

The launch of the campaign was featured on the front page of last week’s Standard and has gone viral on Facebook and Instagram with people sending messages of support as well as donations but there is still a long way to reach the target.

The condition has affected Sarah in a number of ways, including her arms, legs and walking ability, but there was some good news this week when her sight – which she had lost due to a seizure and a bleed on the brain – vastly improved.

Isobella said: “She can see things at a short distance which is so much better than it was.

“We’re still so inspired by the way she is handling it – she’s so cheery and upbeat every single day despite everything she is having to deal with.”
