A DROITWICH woman said she ‘risked her life’ to remove hundreds of nails sprawled across a busy road after her car was damaged by them.

Nicky Hine found seven roofing tacks in her tyres after driving along Crofters Way and Westwood Road on Sunday (January 15), landing her with a repair bill of more than £150.

The incident prompted her to post a warning on Facebook to prevent other drivers suffering the same fate and she and another resident, Tina Brettel, removed ‘hundreds’ of nails.

They then contacted the police and Wychavon District Council which sent out a road sweeper on Tuesday morning (January 17).

“We took the responsibility and risked our own lives to remove the nails from the roads to prevent any further incidents.

“It is not only the cost in repairs but the safety of motorist too. This could have resulted a nasty accident as many people travel to work and school on this road.

“I just don’t understand what happened or why people would do this.

“Let’s hope we saved other people’s money by picking up what we did.”

Sharon Casswell, Wychavon’s client services manager, said: “We’re very sorry to hear nails have been found in the road and that residents’ cars have been damaged.

“We sent a road sweeper out as quickly as we could to clean the affected area.”
