AROUND £700 was raised for the Stroke Association during a charity social evening at Ombersley Cricket and Bowls Club.
It was organised by Charlie Hodges, 72, who lost his wife to a stroke 12 years ago and started fund-raising for the cause after asking for donations for his 70th birthday.
Charlie, whose mother also died recently following a stroke, has now raised more than £5,000 for the charity.
He said the event in Ombersley was fantastic.
“Many thanks to Dawn and all the ladies at the cricket club who provided a tremendous buffet in the evening whilst listening to Matthew Long, vocalist, and to Eric who operated a barbecue all afternoon and evening.
“Fund-raising for the Stroke Association gives me hope that other families will not have to suffer this loss in the future.”
Charlie’s next fund-raiser will be a Fish and Chip Supper in Rushwick on October 25.
