CHURCHES in Bromsgrove, Droitwich and Rubery are being urged to raise funds for The Children’s Society when they hold their annual Christingle services this year.

This year sees the 50th anniversary of the Christingle service celebrated, with funds raised over that time helping over a million children across Britain who are facing Christmas alone.

St Johns’ Church in Bromsgrove has already confirmed plans its Christingle fund-raiser – on December 16 – will raise funds for The Children’s Society and it is hoped others would follow suit.

Around 200,000 children aged ten to 17 in the UK are still experiencing emotional neglect on a regular basis.

The Children’s Society Chief Executive Matthew Reed said: “We are truly grateful for the huge difference that the Christingle services across Worcestershire make to vulnerable children year after year.

“For thousands of children across the country, Christmas is just another time when they feel like no one cares about them at all.

“This year we want to help even more of the country’s most vulnerable children, and we hope more people than ever come along to celebrate our 50th anniversary of Christingle and giver them the chance to enjoy their first Christmas.”
