Closure order issued for Droitwich property where drugs were seized on Tuesday

Droitwich Editorial 18th Nov, 2017   0

FOLLOWING the drugs raid in Droitwich on Tuesday, a closure order has now been obtained by the police to shut down the property in Shepherds Place for three months.

It means those living there and all visitors will be excluded from the home and gives the landlord the opportunity to apply to the court for a permanent eviction.

The closure order, welcomed by the police, has been brought about under the Anti Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014.

PC Richard Rees from Droitwich Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) said: “This a fantastic piece of legislation and so effective in combating anti-social behaviour. It has recently been successfully used in Worcester and at another problem address we had in Droitwich.

“By closing down this address it will give some rest bite to the other residents on Shepherds Place who have had to witness drug dealing, fights, arguments and threats from these people and their visitors.

“A decision to close an address down is not taken lightly.

“However the behaviour of the occupants has had a significant detrimental effect on the community and it is also an important step in our aim to rid the area of drugs.”

Anyone who has any information on drugs use or dealing in Droitwich should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
