MORE than £2,000 has been raised for a Droitwich family whose home was ruined when a water pipe burst.

The incident led to the property flooding, destroying household items and furniture.

Rose Prosser set up the GoFundMe page for her brother Richard, along with his wife Kelly and children Sarah, 15, Theo, eight, Isabelle, seven, and ‘Luna the dog’.

She set the target at £1,000 but kind-hearted residents rushed to the page with 49 donating £2,010 between them within 48 hours.

At the time the Standard went to press, the total was at £2,010.

The family were awoken by the burst pipe in the early hours of last Tuesday to find the entire downstairs of their home flooded.

The familiy’s sofas, flooring, table and chairs, tumble dryer, fridge freezer, hoover, kitchen units, dog bedding and other essentials were all damaged.

The Prossers’ home insurance only covers emergency call-outs and not contents which meant they were left to replace all of their household items less than a month before Christmas.

When setting up the fundraiser, Rose said: “It’s a difficult time of year for most and with Christmas only three weeks away – I want to help them try to get the house okay so they can enjoy Christmas.

“They had just put their Christmas tree up and were looking forward to a family Christmas at home. Sadly everything downstairs is ruined.

“Anything you can donate is really appreciated.”

But, just two days after she was able thank everyone for their ‘kind and generous donations’.

She added in the update: “Things are feeling brighter with the big commercial dehumidifiers working to dry the house out, and they have had donations of a sofa, some furniture and a fridge freezer.

“Richard and Kelly are currently getting quotes to have carpets once the house is dry, which is being quoted around £1,000 to do the lounge, hallway and utility room.

“The damage to the walls, and paint peeling off is becoming more apparent, so the funds will also help us get it all redecorated as well.”

Anyone wishing to boost the coffers further can head to to donate.
