A COMMUNITY fund set up by a Worcestershire estate agent has now donated £100,000 in the last five years to local good causes across the county.
Nicol and Co, with offices in Droitwich, Worcester and Malvern, began the scheme in March 2021 where for every property it sells, the company donates £100 to the seller’s choice of school, charity or local community organisation.
More than £12,000 was raised in its first year alone, leading to the establishment of the Nicol and Co Community Fund, and the popularity of the scheme has seen another £88,000 donated since then.
Matt Nicol, Nicol and Co managing director, said: “The scheme continues to surpass all our expectations and everyone at the company is so proud that we’ve now passed the £100,000 figure.
“That means 1,000 donations of £100 have now been made to local charities and community organisations, which is a staggering figure to contemplate.
“The lovely thing about our Community Fund is that it’s our customers who get to choose where each £100 goes.
“Yes, Nicol and Co exists to help people buy and sell homes, but I’ve always wanted to make sure the company is rooted in the community we serve in other ways, making a positive difference wherever possible.
“Most of all, we want to say a big ‘thank you’ to all our clients who have put their faith in us in the last five years to sell their homes.”
Of the £100,000 raised, more than £28,000 has gone to St Richard’s Hospice in Worcester.
The hospice said: “This is the most incredible milestone that you can all be so proud of.
“What a difference you are making in your community.
“And we are so grateful to be one of the charities who benefits – thank you from all your friends at St Richard’s.”
Coun Sue Brazier, the deputy mayor of Droitwich Spa Town Council who supports many charities in the area, posted: “Fabulous, you’re making a big difference – long may it continue.”
And a spokesperson from Worcestershire Breast Unit Haven thanked the estate agent for its support over the years, calling the Community Fund a ‘great scheme’.
As well as sellers’ nominations, some vendors leave the choice to Nicol and Co which is urging less well-known organisations and causes to put themselves forward by emailing: [email protected] or by visiting the nicolandco.co.uk website.
