COMPETITION - Worcestershire chefs, pubs and food outlets urged to 'create a new recipe with Droitwich salt'

RESTAURANT owners, pubs, food outlets, hotels and chefs across the county are being urged to get creative and come up with some new recipes featuring Droitwich’s famous salt.

SaltFest organiser Simon Berry, chef, blogger and author Paul James and the Standard have teamed up for the project which will see a book created entitled ‘Winslow’s Worcestershire Recipes’.

The best recipes will be featured in the book which will be aimed at championing the Spa town’s famous salt and the history of pilgrim Edward Winslow.

Winslow was born in 1595, baptised in St Peter’s Church, Droitwich. He and native Indians shared the first ever harvest meal – known today as Thanksgiving – in 1621.

Winslow’s ancestors owned a salt pit and produced the commodity in Droitwich.

The book will be available for sale online so people all around the world can get access and try the recipes. It is also hoped it will boost Droitwich tourism and the popularity of the town’s salt.




As part of the book’s America publicity, Saltfest is working to produce an Edward Winslow Thanksgiving Salt – blended with herbs – in recognition of the pilgrim’s tremendous achievements.

Churchfields, which produces the salt, will be supplying the salt with some available free from Simon so creative chefs can try it out and take part in the competition.


Participants can email [email protected] to register their interest and receive some salt to experiment with.

Recipes can then be sent to Simon to enter them into the competition.
