Droitwich Editorial 27th Apr, 2023   0

CORONATION celebrations fit for a king are planned for Droitwich Lido Park next Sunday, May 7.

The Community Coronation Celebration, organised by Droitwich Spa Town Council and Wychavon District Council, will take place between 12pm and 5pm at the park’s bandstand.

The event will feature music from the Salvation Army Brass Band from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, dance performances from ENTW9 at 12.30pm and SB Dance Works at 1.30pm.

There will also be a children’s entertainer, Ronnie Crackers, and a face-painting stall between 2pm and 4pm meaning there will be something for all ages.

A local charity and community group showcase hosted by the ‘Big Help Out’ campaign will give attendees a chance to see and experience the dedicated volunteer work of various organisations.

Among them will be Droitwich Lions, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, The WI, SOBBs, Droitwich Spa Foodbank, Droitwich Salvation Army, Pamela May 2 community narrowboat, U3A Droitwich Spa and District, Tennis in the Park, Friends of the Droitwich Spa Lido and Droitwich First Responders.

The Big Help Out, supported by some of the country’s largest voluntary organisations, has been created to inspire and encourage people all over the UK to celebrate the coronation by engaging in volunteering in their local community on May 8.

People are urged to ‘take along a picnic blanket and enjoy the fun and friendly atmosphere’.

Attendees can also have their photo taken with a life-size cardboard cut-out of King Charles in the Heritage Centre and Droitwich Town Council, supported by Wychavon, has also awarded funding to 20 groups across the town so they can host coronation parties.

A council spokesperson said: “We are delighted with the uptake and being able to offer support to fund coronation parties in Droitwich Spa, to encourage celebrating this momentous occasion of the Coronation of King Charles III’.”
