'De-stress Your Life' up next for Salwarpe WI

A TALK on ‘De-Stress Your Life and Let the Sunshine In’ will be given by guest speaker Sue Langley at the next meeting of Salwarpe WI.

It takes place at Salwarpe Village Hall at 7.30pm on Monday.

At the annual and resolutions meeting in May, president Jennifer Williams welcomed two new members and introduced this year’s resolution on Mental Health Matters.

It urged all WI members to recognise the parity between mental health and physical health issues and had received almost 42 per cent of the vote when the five proposed resolutions for 2018 were debated earlier in the year.

Statistics show one in four UK adults will experience a mental health problem but only 75 per cent will have access to the care they need.

Some members related stories of family members.

The resolution will be considered at the Annual Meeting of the National Federation of WIs in Cardiff tomorrow after being backed by 14,000 WI groups UK-wide.

Other highlights from the May meeting included Christine Wilson reporting back on the group get-together hosted by Crowle WI and Margaret Donnelly speaking about the county WIs’ Spring Meeting in Pershore where new Worcestershire Federation Chairman Sue Stone was introduced to members.

Thanks were given to Jane Baker for organising the excellent afternoon tea at Hanbury Hall as part of the group’s centenary celebrations.

May was a busy month for the group with a return visit to Hotter Shoes, a backstage tour of the RSC Theatre in Stratford and a visit to Great Witley Church and tea rooms.

A trip to Wightwick Manor is planned for later in the year, as well as a get-together with twin WI, Wythall and Salwarpe WI will provide teas at the village fete in August.

The meeting concluded with the reports. The present committee will continue for the coming year with Liz Morris taking over as secretary from Kate Anderson.

A detailed talk on the Suffragettes, prepared by Liz Morris, was read by Barbara Jauncey and the competition of the month for home-made small cakes decorated in purple, white and green (Suffragette colours) was won by Mo Clifton with Carol Glover second.
