DROITWICH residents are invited to pay their respects to the fallen in conflicts past and present at the town’s Remembrance Sunday Parade and service.

It will take place at the town’s war memorial in Victoria Square on November 12.

This year the salute will be taken by the Mayor as the parade passes the civic party outside the Baptist Church in Ombersley Street on its way to Victoria Square.

After the Act of Remembrance at the war memorial the procession will pass on its way to St Andrews Church for the service at 11.30am.

The Parade Commander will be Paul Wilde, the service will be conducted by Rev Nigel Byard, with the Salvation Army band providing the music.

Officers of the Royal British Legion will be present, along with the Mayor and councillors.

Organisations should muster at the underpass end of Ombersley Street East from approximately 10am until 10.15am before moving off to Victoria Square for the Remembrance ceremony itself.

The civic party will meet from 10am onwards at St Richard’s House and will be processing from there at 10.30am.

People wishing to remember those servicemen and women who gave their lives in the service of their country and for our freedom should meet at the memorial by 10.45am.

A two minutes’ silence will be held before the Last Post is played. Prayers and the laying of wreaths will then follow.

People are also being reminded to support this year’s Droitwich Spa Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

Those wanting to lay a wreath who have not yet ordered one are requested to contact the British Legion’s Adrian Wright by email at [email protected] or by calling 01905 927157.

Also, if anyone is interested in joining the Droitwich Branch of the Royal British Legion, they should also call Adrian for details.

The Rotary Club of Droitwich Spa is helping the British Legion with the Poppy Appeal collections and arrangements for the Remembrance Parade.

Anyone who would like to sell Poppies for an hour on any day between now and November 12 should call Mel Bates on 01386 792414.
