Developers' knockout donation helps provide boxing sessions for Droitwich Parkinson's patients

A KNOCKOUT scheme in Droitwich aimed at helping people with Parkinson’s Disease has been given a £500 welcome boost by Redrow Homes Midlands.

Box Positive, led by occupational therapist and boxing coach Charles Delve in his spare time, delivers non-contact boxing classes which help participants with their co-ordination and response times.

They also give them the opportunity to make new friends in a supportive environment.

With sessions on hold since February due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Charles is hoping to resume the classes with limited numbers as soon as it is safe to do so.

The donation from Redrow Homes Midlands, which is building properties on the town’s Orchards development, will allow the organisation to purchase new equipment, including PPE to help re-start their vital sessions for those in the community.

Charles said everyone was extremely grateful to Redrow for the donation which will give the group what it needs to get classes up-and-running again.

“These sessions offer a unique opportunity for many people living with Parkinson’s disease to improve their fitness and wellbeing.

“The majority of people joining our group find their symptoms are reduced for a while after the session, they feel more flexible, stronger and energised – which is why it’s so important to host these classes in a safe, socially-distanced way once again.”

Elaine Cartwright, Sales Director for Redrow Homes Midlands, said: “We are thrilled to be supporting such a wonderful community initiative.

“The boxing classes Charles provides are hugely important to those in the community living with Parkinson’s disease, and it is vital that these sessions are back up and running again soon.

“Creating thriving communities is at the heart of our ethos here at Redrow Midlands, and it’s wonderful to be able to support Charles and his fantastic organisation.”

The sponsorship is fitting with Redrow’s ongoing commitment to promote health and wellbeing within the communities where it is building new homes.

The Orchards offers two, three, four and five-bedroom homes in Droitwich.
