FAMILIES with dogs who are venturing out over the half-term holiday are being warned to keep their dogs on leads.
It comes as figures from NFU Mutual show dog attacks on livestock and worrying increased by almost 50 per cent across the UK.
And the Midlands saw the biggest rise of any of the areas – the company received claims of £55,989 throughout last year – the figure for 2015 was £24,999.
The Standard also reported weeks ago about incidents of sheep deaths caused by worrying and dogs being shot by farmers, who are completely within their rights to take action if their livestock’s lives are being put in jeopardy.
A series of tips have been issued by NFU for pet owners, which include keeping dogs on leads, familiarising four-legged friends with livestock from a young age and always check and be aware of any livestock in fields when walking pooches in the countryside.
