Douglas M Smith's free talk on First World War hospital at Hartlebury is latest in Bromsgrove Society's series

THE STORY of the World War One Hartlebury Voluntary Aid Detachment hospital is the subject of the Bromsgrove Society’s latest local history talk.

Douglas M Smith will give the presentation at 7.30pm on Tuesday, October 20, based on his book ‘Cheer Boys, It’s Hartlebury’.

It is based on the seven visitor’s books left there by soldiers.

Douglas researched the history of this hospital set up for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers and the 430 men recorded as staying there.

The ‘calm among the carnage’ presentation draws on poems, drawings and photographs found in the visitor’s books.

The talk is free to view on Zoom but donations are welcome to cover costs and support the

Methodist Centre where the society holds its talks when not in lockdown.
