A MOTORIST was taken to hospital after the car he was driving crashed into a parked car and the Droitwich Tandoori takeaway.

The incident happened around 5.10pm on Tuesday when, it is believed, the man had a medical episode at the wheel.

Three Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service crews – two from Droitwich and one from Bromsgrove – attended.

West Midlands Ambulance Service sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer and the Air Ambulance Critical Care Car.

The man, in his 50s, was medically trapped in the vehicle and firefighters worked to free him before handing him over to medics.

The driver, who had a potentially serious condition, received treatment at the scene before he was taken to the Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The fire service said significant damage had been caused to the single-storey building and the owner of the property was advised to contact structural engineers for further advice.

The owner of Droitwich Tandoori, Juber Udin, told the Standard: “It was quite bad – there was damage to the shutters and the wall as well.”

He added he had spoken to the engineers who confirmed it was okay to open.

“I have got somebody to board it up to make sure it is safe and we are able to open as usual.”
