Droitwich charity shop suffers second break-in this year

THE SALVATION Army Charity Shop in Droitwich has reopened following an attempted burglary less than three months after more than £500 was stolen.

The shop, located on St Andrews Street, had the back door smashed and a small window broken.

Shocked staff found out about the burglary on Tuesday morning.

Initially, due to the break in, staff told customers that the charity shop would not be able to open until further notice.

However, the staff cleaned up, and they felt they were in a position to open in the afternoon.

The till was tampered with, but there was no money in the building so nothing has been taken.

However, staff do need to replace the windows, which has caused some disruption.

Over £500 was lost when one of its large windows was smashed in, and its safe was forced open back in January.

Mjr Sandra Collins, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army in Droitwich, said: “The staff are all a bit upset.

“The assistant manager discovered it when she opened the shop this morning.

“We have CCTV from the shop next door, which shows the culprits entering around 4am on Sunday morning.

“There was no money kept on the premises after the previous incident.

“We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and continued support- it really means a lot.”

Income from the charity shop helps fund a wide range of local Salvation Army activities in Droitwich, including community groups, family support and outreach work.
