IT WAS more than just the winning team who were celebrating after the walking football tournament in Droitwich on Sunday after the event raised more than £6,000 for Melanoma UK and the Brain and Spine Foundation.

The event was organsied by Mike Hull who has terminal cancer and his daughter had been helped by the Brain and Spine Foundation.

The crowds flocked to the event with ‘The Nearly Men’ running out winners.

There was also a host of other activities on the day.

Mike told The Standard: “It was an absolutely amazing day.

“There were that many people there and the weather was great – it could not have been perfect.”

Mike thanked everyone who supported the event and Tim Kirkham, the manager of Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre, for providing the pitch and other facilities on the day for free.

“They gave us everything we needed,” he added.

And following last week’s scan, Mike received some good news on Wednesday.

There was one tumour left and, although it was active, it was stable and not growing so the medical staff were happy.

Mike will have scans in the future to monitor the tumour.
