Droitwich Age UK branch says big 'thank you' to volunteers and fund-raisers for successful 2015

THE DROITWICH branch of Age UK contacted The Standard to say a big thank you to all the residents and businesses who supported the charity throughout 2015.

A variety of assistance saw cash donated to the cause, fund-raising activities set up, gifts and handicrafts made and bequests given.

And, over the festive season, volunteers were able to deliver 22 food hampers and 17 Winter Warmer packs to older people in Droitwich who needed them.

Notable support, the branch said, included fund-raising by Coun Bob Brookes during his term as Mayor of Droitwich, a donation from Fortis Housing, a donation from the Waitrose Community Matters Collection and fund-raising by staff at the Spa branch of Barclays Bank following their community Christmas Party.

Julie’s Pantry and the Pillar of Salt public house donated gifts, 750 woollen hats were donated following the Big Knit Appeal and there was a donation from the Worcester Christadelphian Church.

In 2014 to 15, volunteers also donated over 1,600 hours to support Age UK Droitwich Spa.

Jan Phillips, the CEO of Droitwich’s Age UK, said: “We are very grateful to our volunteers for their excellent support without which we would be unable to provide some of our key services or run our organisation.

“Most of our volunteers have been helping the charity over a number of years but in recent years we have been joined by new volunteers.

“Our volunteers bring new skills and ideas which keep our services fresh and relevant.”
