DROITWICH artists are among those taking part in the county’s largest free annual art event.
Five artists and creators from the Droitwich district will be taking part in this year’s Worcestershire Open Studios event by welcoming visitors into their studios, giving them behind the scenes access into their creative spaces and processes.
This years event has more studios to visit than ever before with 128 artists showcasing their paintings, sculptures, prints, jewellery, ceramics, photographs, textiles and woodwork across 97 studios from August 19 to August 28.
Droitwich creatives featuring include artist Eric Watson, textile artist, Sylvie Millen, painter Jo Morris, enamels designer Christine Harmer and ceramicist, printer and textile artist Maggie Hobbs.
Sylvie Millen said: “I create contemporary embroidery sculptures using a free-motion machine stitching technique.
“My inspiration comes from the natural world and is an emotional response to how I feel when submersed in nature.
“I love sharing my textile art with visitors and enjoy the spontaneous interactions and conversations that transpire.
“During Open Studios I’ll be exhibiting my textile art, with some original pieces for sale and a number of prints available. I will be demonstrating my embroidery techniques and will be happy to explain the process.”
All of the artists are excited to open their doors, to meet and chat with visitors about their art and how it’s made.
Richard Nicholls of Worcestershire Open Studios described the event as an ‘excellent opportunity’ to see the talent on their doorstep.
