Droitwich banking hub opens in St Andrews Square

DROITWICH now has its own banking hub after the new store opened in St Andrews Square.

The banking hub opened its doors on Wednesday, December 17, with an official launch planned in the New Year.

The leader of Wychavon, Coun Richard Morris, said the new banking hub was ‘great news for the town.

Droitwich Spa was recommended for a banking hub after news that its last remaining bank branch, Santander, would be closing.

Banking hubs are operated by Cash Access UK and the Post Office and are assessed for eligibility by LINK, which runs the nation’s cashpoint network.

They protect residents and business owners’ right to access to cash and other financial banking services when retail banks shut up shop in local communities.

Residents, business owners and local authority representatives have long been calling for one in the town as it has continued to face bank branch closures over the last few years.

Banking hubs are a shared banking space, similar to a traditional bank branch, but available to everyone.

The hub consists of a counter service where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out regular banking transactions.

There are also private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated matters requiring specialist knowledge or privacy.

The banks will be working on a rotating basis, so there will be staff from different banks available on alternating days.

It will be open between 9am and 5pm on weekdays.
