Droitwich Bereavement Journey celebrates third anniversary

A BEREAVEMENT Project based in Droitwich has celebrated its third birthday, writes Charlotte Hall.

The Droitwich Bereavement Journey offers a seven-week course, two hours-a-week. It helps people address the different aspects of grief.

The project, which began as an idea four years ago, supports people across Evesham and Honeybourne, as well as Droitwich.

It was set up by the St Vincent de Paul Society. The course takes place the Sacred Heart Church in Droitwich.

The scheme is made up of a once-a-month Bereavement Cafe and the possibility of progressing to The Bereavement Journey course.

The services offer an alternative to the usual support, free of charge, to all, as a safe space to share similar experiences.

They have received help from Droitwich Volunteer Bureau staff, Droitwich Town and Worcestershire Country Councils and councillors, local funeral directors, Platform Housing, Waitrose, the National Lottery, private donations and more.

The first Bereavement Cafe was held in Droitwich July 2023, with 25 guests. Since then, it has gone from strength-to-strength with total of guests being helped rising to 123.

A total of 52 of those have further benefited from attending the Bereavement Journey course.

The celebration at Rotary House, Droitwich, included ‘cake and fizz’ and recognised the service’s success. It also thanked their supporters and volunteers, without who the project would not have existed.

Guests who’ve benefited from the project, said, “It is being with others who understand what I am going through without judgement.

“We now have new friends who understand what we are going through and we support each other.

“Thank you again, it is wonderful service that you are offering.”

The volunteers were moved by the impact the project has had on people’s lives.
