Droitwich canals society gets cash boost for narrowboat upkeep

Droitwich Editorial 6th Sep, 2023   0

THE Worcester-Birmingham and Droitwich Canals Society has been given a £500 cash boost from Alvechurch Parish Council towards the upkeep of its community narrowboat ‘Cecilia’.

The grant was handed to charity chair, David Wheeler by Alvechurch council leader Coun Marc Worrall at a special ceremony on Monday on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal, by bridge 60 on Station Road.

The society owns the 70-foot narrowboat which works with local community groups and charities, with volunteers on hand to helm and crew the boat.

It has held many fundraising activities in recent years to pay for Cecilia’s upkeep.

David Wheeler thanked the parish council for the ‘generous’ donation.

Visit www.wbdcs.org.uk to find out more about trips on Cecilia or volunteer to be a member of the boat crew.
