A SCHEME aimed at getting residents fitter and healthier has received an extra £50,000 from the lottery and has been extended until March, 2018.
The ‘Get Wychavon Active’ was launched with an initial £150,000 Lotto grant four years ago and since then has led to more than 19,000 people taking part in a variety of activities from sailing to Bhangra dancing.
‘Couch to 5k’ running courses have seen over 800 people reach their goal and many people have enjoyed discounts in membership fees for swimming pools, gyms and fitness sessions across Wychavon.
Due to the scheme’s widespread success, Sport England has awarded an extra £50,000 and extended the closing date to continue providing a valuable service to the newly active members of the community.
The cash will be split between local organisations and sports clubs.
For more on applying for funding for an activity, email Mark Williams, Wychavon’s sports development officer, at [email protected] or call him on 01386 565229.
