Droitwich commuters set for rail strike disruption next week

Droitwich Editorial 13th Jul, 2023   0

DROITWICH rail passengers are set for a week of disruption as union members are set to strike.

Members of the RMT union will be taking industrial action on Thursday and Saturday, July 20 and 22, as well as on Saturday, July 29.

On all three of these dates, there will be no West Midlands Railway service on the Birmingham New Street to Hereford line, which stops at Droitwich Spa, Worcester Foregate Street, Malvern Link and Great Malvern.

A reduced timetable will run on other routes between 7am and 7pm on these dates.

Members of the ASLEF union have announced their intention to stage action short of a strike in the form of an overtime ban between Monday, July 17 and Saturday, July 22.

Because of it, a reduced service will operate on the Birmingham to Hereford line next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

The train service will be supplemented by rail replacement buses on these dates.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: “It is disappointing that industrial action is continuing to affect our passengers’ journeys.

“I urge passengers travelling next week to check their journeys before setting out as services may be subject to short-notice cancellation.

“For this reason, I also advise passengers to avoid relying on the last train of the evening where possible.

“Passengers travelling on RMT strike days should plan ahead as a reduced timetable will be in operation between 7am and 7pm only and some routes will not be served.

“Anyone holding a ticket for travel on a strike day can use their ticket on a different day or claim a full refund.”
