Droitwich councillors tout active travel plan to encourage more cyclists

DROITWICH councillors have discussed ways to improve the town’s connectivity and encourage more people in the area to cycle.

One suggestion was to create a dedicated path encircling the Saltway, leading past the train station towards Droitwich High School.

Town councillor George Duffy said: “A strong route connecting the high school to the town centre would support active travel in the town by creating a safe and accessible way for commuters to cycle.”

Active travel is part of a larger vision to see the district halve its carbon emissions and boost its renewable energy output by 2030.

A bike stand being connected to an existing electric car charging point, has also been touted.

“This facility would be the first step in supporting residents to feel safe travelling to the town centre by bicycle,” added Coun Duffy.

“With the knowledge they can store their bike securely and will not get stuck if the worst should happen.”
