DROITWICH cyclists can get their bikes protected for free, thanks to Wychavon District Council.
The bike-marking team will be at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre from 10am to 1pm on Monday, July 30, and between 1.30pm and 4.30pm on Friday, August 3, at Westlands Family Fun Day.
The fun day is being run by Fortis Living.
Each bike will be marked with a unique code which can then be registered on a national database.
If the cycle is then lost or stolen it will be easier for police to trace and return it to the rightful owner.
More than 500,000 bikes are stolen in the UK each year because they are poorly stored or not secured at all.
Coun Gerry O’Donnell, Executive Board Member with responsibility for health and wellbeing together with community safety on Wychavon District Council, said: “This event is a great opportunity for residents to protect their bike for free.
Cycling is a great way to stay fit and healthy, and bike marking will give cycle owners peace of mind that if it is ever stolen or lost, there is a greater chance of being reunited.
“Community and Environmental Protection Officers will also be on hand to give free advice on keeping your bike safe.”
There is no need to book. People can just turn up on the day.
