Droitwich DJs to hold disco for Mike's Mole-Mapping Machine drive as Salvation Army concert raises £1,300

TWO DROITWICH DJs will be putting on a disco in the town on Friday, June 24, to raise funds for Mike Hull’s Mole-Mapping Machine.

Bill Sadd and Terry Duggan started DJ-ing in the late 1960s and worked together for more than 35 years, putting on discos all across the West Midlands.

During that time, they did weddings and other celebrations and events in Droitwich, Worcester, Bromsgrove, Kidderminster and Birmingham.

Bill told the Standard: “We were quite popular back in the day and wanted to come out of retirement to help Mike’s cause.

“When he was alive he asked us if we would put on a disco as part of his campaign for the machine and we said we would.

“Sadly he passed away before we could get a date sorted but we still wanted to do it for him and this fantastic cause.”

The disco will be at Droitwich Working Men’s Club at 7.30pm on Friday and will feature a mix of music from the 1960s, 70s, 80s and 90s, along with motown, northern soul and other genres.

Mike lost his brave nine-year battle with melanoma on March 19 and the mole-mapping machine will be his legacy.

A fund-raising concert from The Salvation Army on Saturday raised £1,300 and means the campaign target of £55,000 to pay for the machine, its installation and licences is within touching distance.

It will be installed at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital so it can be available to everyone across the Midlands who needs it.

When he was diagnosed, Mike was told had his melanoma been caught earlier, his outcome could have been different.

Mike’s wife Carol thanked the Salvation Army for putting on the event and said: “The concert was amazing – the hall was full and the total generated was fantastic – it was an all-round brilliant night.

“I also want to say thank you to Bill and Terry – we are all really looking forward to the disco on Friday.”

Tickets for Friday’s disco, which are £5, are available by calling Bill on 07840 626433.
