THE DROITWICH Dolphins Swim Club has been awarded West Midlands Club of the Year by Swim England.
Over the past year, the club has excelled in charity fund-raising, extra curricula activities and their swimming ability has improved – which all influenced the decision.
Droitwich Dolphins’ swimming coach Dave White said: “We are a little club, and for a club like us to win the award is great.
“To us, swimming is more than just a sport, our swimmers support each other, to push themselves both physically and mentally, building lifelong friendships, a team spirit and a sense of belonging.”
The club raised more than £5,000 by swimming the distance between Droitwich and the London Olympic Pool and organising a colour walk.
The club has grown nearly a third since the start of Covid, but the pandemic’s effects came with its own set of challenges.
David added: “Covid had affected people physically and mentally, and it was a lot for people to get through, so we had to work on both these things.”
The club now goes through to the Swim England National Awards in late November.
