THE MUM of a young Droitwich girl with serious heart abnormalities is urging people to raise funds for the charity which helped her daughter.

Jamie Curtis’ rallying call comes after Myla was born in December 2016 with a ‘double inlet left ventricle’ which has affected the vales and chambers of her heart.

Jamie, who was given the devastating news when she was seven months pregnant, said: “It is a parent’s worst nightmare to be told your unborn child has a serious heart condition.

“At the time we were warned to expect the worst.”

Myla appeared healthy at first but it soon became apparent she needed an operation.

She underwent the ‘Glenn shunt’ procedure when she was six-months-old to help increase the blood flow to her lungs.

The 27-year-old added: “It’s the most heart-breaking experience watching your tiny baby being handed over to surgeons.

“But Myla defied all the odds and was discharged and sent home on day five of recovery.”

Since the operation Myla, now three, has tried to live her life as normally as possible.

But she will need another open heart operation in the future to help with her breathing.

In the meantime Jamie is determined to raise as much cash as possible for BHF’s life saving research.

She is a member of the Droitwich DoubleBeat BHF fund-raising group which she formed with friends Sarah Poultney and Marie Tolley.

They have organised ‘Flutter Feet, Food and Fizz’ which will be held at Manor Hill House, Upton Warren, on February 7.

There will be a range of entertainment including fireworks, food and drink and two live bands – Carrick and The Test Pilots.

Cocktail attire is recommended although guests are welcome to wear whatever they feel comfortable in.

The event will include an auction, with prizes including a champagne hot air balloon ride, a two-hour life coaching session from Jen Smollett Coaching and the rental of a villa in Florida for up to six people.

Tickets cost £55 per person and all cash raised will help fund BHF’s vital work.
