A DROITWICH family has raised more than £2,000 for a Bristol hospital charity to say thank-you to staff for treating their premature twins.

Donna Anthoney was transferred from Worcestershire Royal Hospital to Southmead Hospital in Bristol when she had a caesarean section at 25 weeks.

Now three-years old, twins Lucca and Luna spent five weeks in intensive care and needed blood transfusions after they were born weighing just one pound, 13 ounces and one pound, six ounces.

Donna and her husband Rob were unable to hold their children until they were three weeks old.

Son-in-law, Richard Padley, decided to raise money for Southmead Hospital Charity’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) fund by completing the Bristol Half Marathon with Donna last year.

To say thank-you to the staff for their hard work, the duo completed the challenge in two hours, five minutes and six seconds, raising £2,334 in total.

Richard said: “The twins were in a critical condition but thanks to the staff at Southmead Hospital who dedicated their time and hard work, both Lucca and Luna pulled through.

“They have now celebrated their third birthday, but without the help of all the staff involved in their initial care they wouldn’t be here today.”

Adrian Brown, community appeals manager at Southmead Hospital Charity, said: “We would like to congratulate Richard and Donna on their massive superhero fundraising effort, and thank them for all the money they have raised.

“It will go towards treating sick and premature babies in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

“We’re so grateful for this support.”
