Droitwich festive foodbank proves success

Droitwich Editorial 8th Jan, 2015 Updated: 17th Oct, 2016

A FESTIVE foodbank launched by a Droitwich woman was so popular a permanent drop off point has been set up.

The Standard reported on an appeal launched by Laura McCullough, of Colford Close, back in November.

The 26-year-old swimming teacher is now happy to announce the drive was a huge success after she received hundreds of donations for the Droitwich Spa Foodbank, run by The Trussell Trust.

Laura, who works for Chessgrove Swim, said she was thrilled to donate around 20 boxes full of food to the charity which has now chosen to use one of the main collection points at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre on a permanent basis.

The other businesses who helped Laura by acting as collection points included Chessgrove Swim in Hanbury, The Beauty Room in Wychbold, Droitwich Sports Centre, SN Finance Service Limited, Gorgeous Hair Design, the Westcroft pub and The Star and Garter.

Laura added: “It was quite overwhelming – a lot of people did not even know we had a foodbank in Droitwich so to raise awareness of it just being there felt quite good.

“It is quite nice knowing it goes to a lot of people who need it.

“We were not expecting it to be as mad as what it was.

“I would like to thank everybody that donated and all the individual drop off points which help make it a success.”

Rev Jane Wilson, who works at the foodbank, said when they heard about Laura’s fantastic work they got in contact with her and showed her around the warehouse to see how it all worked.

She added Laura was now using her contacts to continue her brilliant work and bring in food collections, working with the team at the foodbank.

Rev Wilson said: “We were really pleased when we heard about Laura’s work and what she had done.

“We are absolutely delighted to be working with her.”
