AN EXHIBITION of Droitwich football memorabilia was officially opened at the town’s heritage centre and tourist information centre on Wednesday.
The display follows a recent appeal, featured on the front page of The Standard, for people to send in their items, photographs and memories of football clubs in Droitwich.
‘Droitwich Football Through Time’ is a celebration of a number of local teams, starting from the earliest teams in 1886 to the present day Droitwich Spa Football Club. Droitwich Spa Football Club brought some shirts down, especially for the launch.
The display will be available to view in the Council Chamber at St Richard’s House, Victoria Square, and is accessed via the Tourist Information Centre.
Heritage manager Lisa Backhouse said she hoped as many people as possible would head down to see the collection which runs until the end of the month.
“Come and see whether you can spot any familiar faces, or perhaps you might even see yourself on a team photograph.”
Town mayor, Coun Shaun Best, said: “It was great to see – a celebration of all things football in Droitwich.
“A lot of us were also thinking about Frank Holliday who did so much for football in the town.
“He would have loved this exhibition. He would have been so proud.”
Tributes paid to Frank, who passed away on June 25 after a battle with cancer, said he ‘was Droitwich Spa Boys and Girls Football Club’ for almost 40 years.
The Droitwich Football Through Time exhibition is available to view between 10am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, and from 10am to 1.30pm on Saturdays.
