A TOTAL of £45,000 of New Homes Bonus funding has been allocated to ten community projects across Wychavon District.
Among the reciepients are Himbleton Parish Council which will receive £5,118 towards improving facilities at Himbleton Cricket Club abd £2,331.50 for Elmley Lovett Parish Council to buy a roundabout for a children’s play area.
The New Homes Bonus is a grant paid by central Government to Wychavon and other local authorities when new housing developments are built.
It is based on the amount of extra council tax revenue raised by new homes and empty homes being brought back into use.
Coun Gerry O’Donnell, portfolio holder for Community Development, Culture and Sport, said it was ‘absolutely fantastic’ to see the investment in so many great community projects that would have a lasting benefit.
“We remain of the opinion that some of our New Homes Bonus should be shared with the communities where development takes place.
“We’re very proud that, as far as we’re aware, we’re the only council that does this.
“This is localism in action.”
