Droitwich Half Marathon rescheduled for this weekend after track flooding

Droitwich Editorial 17th Nov, 2022   0

THE DROITWICH Half Marathon has been rescheduled to Sunday (November 20) after the track was flooded.

The annual half marathon was supposed to be the 10th annual event hosted by the Droitwich Athletics Club. However, heavy rainfall led to the postponement of the event.

Adam Taylor, Race Director, said: “The race attracts runs of all abilities from all over our neighbouring counties, and the event remains as popular as ever, with runners using the race as part of their training calendars.

“This event is only possible due to the commitment and support from volunteers, including from other Droitwich Sports Clubs, the High School, the Leisure Centre and local pubs.”

The event is open to all runners over 17 who are up for a challenging 13.1 miles around the beautiful countryside surrounding Droitwich Spa.

The route will take runners through Droitwich Spa, Salwarpe, Ladywood, Hadley, Porters Mill, and Fernhill Heath, returning via Porters Mill and Ladywood to finish at the High School Athletics Track.

Throughout the day, changing facilities and refreshments will also be available by Rivers, The Gardeners Arms and their sponsors, Ormerod Rutter.

Elinor Archer, from Ormerod Rutter, said: “Sponsoring the Droitwich Half Marathon is important from a health point of view as it encourages exercise, which provides those taking part with a sense of achievement – especially if they complete the course.

“It is well documented that exercise helps to improve mental health, so supporting this event will hopefully allow people to work towards a healthy mind and body.”

The race starts at 11am at Droitwich Sports Centre, and registration begins at 9am.
