DROITWICH Spa football club will hold a testimonial game tomorrow (Sunday) to thank ‘amazing’ Chris Hartshorne for more than 40 years of dedication to the club while raising funds as he battles cancer.
The match will see old Spa players get together at the King George Playing Fields to thank Chris, who arrived at Droitwich when the boys club was formed in 1979.
He continued to play for the open-age team from 1985 to 2008 and was the club’s treasurer until recently.
Chris is currently the manager of one of the Under 12 teams.
Last March, Chris was diagnosed with Ampullary cancer and underwent a Whipple Procedure and chemotherapy.
However, the cancer has now spread to his liver and he began having more chemotherapy in January.
A JustGiving page has been set up ahead of the match to raise much-needed funds for Macmillan Cancer Support with £250 raised towards the £1,000 target.
Many of Chris’s former team-mates and close friends have been invited to join his special day with the match kicking off at 11am.
