'Droitwich is thriving' says town mayor in his Christmas message

Droitwich Editorial 24th Dec, 2019   0

WELL DONE Droitwich Spa.

As mayor, my wife Dilys and I have attended many engagements in Droitwich and have enjoyed the sights and sounds of our vibrant town and met many hard-working group volunteers, carers, teachers, ministers and of course some of our very impressive youngsters.

We have also been invited to most of the towns in the district and the City of Worcester, where we enjoyed the hospitality of the so called ‘chain gang’.

They in turn have come to Droitwich to attend functions both civic and informal and I know have left with a pleasing impression.

Most of these functions have been to raise funds for our various charities.

This year our town festivals have been a huge success.

We were blessed with good weather and the town was packed with people from far and wide.

I am pleased Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival received the ‘2019 Visit Worcestershire Award for Excellence’.

Remembrance Sunday, however, was cold and windy but as usual the people of Droitwich gathered in their hundreds to pay their respects and we were honoured to be joined by a veteran who was involved in the D-Day landings.

I carried out two light switch-on events, the Mayflower 400 commemoration lights which adorn St Richards house with a fantastic laser light display. The second was our traditional Christmas lights.

Again, the people of Droitwich turned out in their hundreds, despite the weather.

Well done Droitwich Spa and a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Coun Bill Moy

Mayor of Droitwich Spa
